SOCIETY DESK - Hugh Akston
Psalm 128:2 When you eat the labor of your hands, You [shall be] happy, and [it shall be] well with you.
I believe it is truly wonderful to be able to sit down with my family at dinner time and know that they are feed by the Grace of God and the work I did. The labor of my hands and the effort of the mind and body that God Gave to me, to perform a service to others; that they believe is worthy of a recompense; and earning my wages.
I have seen proud beggars and I have seen haughty beggars esteeming themselves entitled to what they take, but they are truly nothing more than thieves taking what is not theirs.
Proverbs 13:11 Wealth [gained by] dishonesty will be diminished, But he who gathers by labor will increase.
Ephesians 4:28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with [his] hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.
There are of course those who do not plan, cannot budget what they earn, or are driven by a desire to have more than they can afford, and they are constantly in a state of want. They lack knowledge and understanding to improve their situation.
Proverbs 14:23 In all labor there is profit, But idle chatter [leads] only to poverty.
1 Thessalonians 4:11 that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you,
I have seen the truly needy, those who because of circumstances beyond their control; natural disasters or medical emergencies and just plain accidents; they do not have or have lost all they saved. Those who are in a state of true need, not really wishing to live off of the labor of others, but a placed in a state they have no control over. Those who need and deserve our help.
Deuteronomy 15:7-8 "If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother, "but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he needs.
Government cannot be Charitable, only individuals. I for one find it interesting that Mitt Romney gave more to charity last year, according to his 1040 (2.98 Million) than ; Obama ($137,622); Both Clintons ($300 each), Nancy Pelosi ($300), John Kerry ($300) and Harry Reid ($300) combined, according to their 1040’s. ($300 is the maximum allowable charitable contributions without receipts.) I wonder why the Democrats were so anxious to get him to release his tax records; I think it reflects well on the man.
I believe that if we lower the Tax rate and eliminate “Government Charity” Private Citizens will once again have money to help the truly poor and needy in their neighborhoods and towns. We do not need to be like the Lawyer in “Luke 10:29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?” we know who our neighbors are and we know who needs and who is just lazy. Government programs of one size fits all do not work, they take from those who work and give to those who do not. There is no real accountability or reason For the Government to end poverty as it would lead to increased unemployment of Government charity workers, and a decrease in voters who enjoy the government handouts.
The best the Government could do is to get out of the Charity business and get out of the citizens way to building opportunities for themselves, to rise and fall based on their own effort and merits, to achieve based on their own abilities. Government should only offer equal opportunity not equal results.
We are accountable for our reaching out to those in need, for our love and charity to others Not some government bureaucrat who takes from us by force. Jesse James stole from banks and railroads, he paid mortgages and the debts of war widows. Many thought he did a lot of good; BUT he was still a thief.
Isaiah 65:21-23 They shall build houses and inhabit [them]; They shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit; They shall not plant and another eat; For as the days of a tree, [so shall be] the days of My people, And My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labor in vain, Nor bring forth children for trouble; For they [shall be] the descendants of the blessed of the LORD, And their offspring with them.
Let Government do less to me, let me help those around me who I feel need it. Let me enjoy the fruits of my labors and do not steal from me to give to others.
God Bless
Just my thoughts for today.

Oops, reference for my reply.
Leonard, while I tend to agree with you about Romney's politics, he is eligible to be President. I, too, bought into the myth that his grandfather was illegal and his father was born in Mexico - making him ineligible. But the Geraldo Rivera had it wrong. Romney's grandparents:
When polygamy was outlawed they fled to Mexico. Then
After the Mexican Revolution broke out in 1910, the Mormon colonies began to be endangered, starting in 1911-1912 by raids from marauders. In response, Romney’s grandparents fled Mexico, taking their 5-year-old son, Geo....
When George W. Romney ran for president in 1968, Charles Gordon, a counsel with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service and an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown Law Center, addressed the eligibility issue in an article in the Winter 1968 issue of the Maryland Law Review.
And if you follow the news, Fox spoke often of his tithing to his Church! That is certainly a Christian value and does not involve money from others.
I don't like his "big government" ideas, health care ideas, his flip-flopping, his faux Conservatism, and his total lack of experience in how Washington, DC works. I sense he will try to run it like a business.
I am trying to make the leap between Hugh's post and your response. I am hitting the "bridge to nowhere."

I am sure your anger comes from somewhere, were you dropped on your head by a Mormon doctor at birth? Nowhere did I endorse Romney, why would you think I voted for Obama? I merely stated that Romney was more generous with HIS OWN MONEY than the Democrats. So What if he gave HIS MONEY to the Mormon Church; which he did, is it not his to do what he wants to with it or would you put controls on who can and cannot donate money they earned as they see fit? If you earned $10 a month and gave it all to the charity of your choice it is not for me to be impressed, if that is your reason for giving, to impress man, your heart and head are wrong; and no I would not be impressed. I did not say that any of them impressed me. I just reported what they found in his Tax records that everyone demanded.
As you seem to be a Ron Paul Zealot try reading my reply to Mangus Colorado on his post “TPM AND THE REAL WORLD - OUR NATION IS AT RISK - WILL YOU HELP TO ...
Chill Dude your Meds are wearing off.
Beautiful post! One thing the government forgets and we must not - the most charitable acts I have ever witnessed are often not the type that can be reported on an income tax form. It is those people who give of themselves and their time that make such an invaluable difference. They lift the spirit and give hope and courage.
Wow Hugh, Well done ! ! !
Amazing documentation, that is sad. Keep up the good work.
Thank you. You are pointing out things in the bible I need to be reminded of.
Comment by JeansBrother on February 2, 2012 at 2:15pm Charity springs from the soul of man. No organization, including government, has a soul. Therefore, no organization can be charitable although it may take care of those in need to fulfill all or part of its purpose.
