*Actually I can imagine where GM would be. Out of business, with hundreds of thousands of jobs lost. But we bailed them out, they paid us back with interest over 2 years ahead of schedule.

As an Investor I had several thousand dollars in GM bonds, Secured debts under bankruptcy laws. Obama violated federal Bankruptcy laws with his “GM Bailout” giving preference to Unions with Stock options and Stock Holdings (Unsecured debts), over holders of Secured debts. Stock holders got paid Bond holders did not.

GM has not paid back anything with interest yet. Gm would have restructured it’s debts without a bail out, union contracts would have been restructured, and GM would be a more efficient company today.

*GM was heralded by no less than three Presidents for their contribution to the Allied war effort. But if they need a loan in tough times, forget it, right?

Key Phrase “WAR EFFORT”, as in National defense, a part of the federal responsibility in the Constitution. Picking winners and losers in industry is not the Governments responsibility. Halliburton should never have preference over other defense contractors. A loan for poor business practices should never be given by the federal government.

* 6 years ago the Defense Department, under a different President, of course, awarded the largest military contract in history to a French firm. Did the "patriots" cry foul then?

If you are referring to Beretta over Colt. There were protests of that contract as the field testing was not right. However the best weapon should have won as it is for the safety and defense of our soldiers and I want them to have the best equipment, not the lowest bidder.
