I was reading about the “Rash of gun violence in the windy city” something you can only find out about from the local Chicago news, I guess it is so common place that the networks no longer consider it “NEWS”. This got me to thinking about recent gun violence, Ft Hood, The Navy Yards in DC, Sandy Hook Elementary School, And Chicago are all “Gun Free zones”, All have restrictive Gun laws, What else do they have in common? Lets take a closer look at them.
At least 25 people were shot, five of them fatally, in Chicago between Friday and Sunday, police said.
The weekend violence began just one day after 13 people were injured in a shooting at a Chicago park.
Chicago was the nation's murder capital in 2012, statistics released this week by the FBI confirm.
The city recorded more than 500 homicides in 2012, exceeding New York City, which recorded 419, and Los Angeles, which recorded 299, according to FBI data. The populations of both NYC and LA are greater than Chicago.
The news comes as Chicago police Supt. Garry McCarthy says he's fighting a perception that the city continues to lead the country in murders and crime.
Earlier this month, McCarthy said homicides in the city were down 23 percent so far this year.
McCarthy is not fighting a “Perception” but a reality; the community organized and democrat led city of Rahm Emanuel and Barry Obama is in fact leading the nation in murders and crime. They say they decreased homicides by 23% of 500+; which still leave 385+ murders this year and the year is not over yet. Chicago leaders and Democrat politicians still continue to blame guns for the violence not the people who use them. I find the following quote to be quite informative and accurate especially if you change the word Talent for Tools.
"[I]ntelligence amongst the good brings forth Madisons and Lockes -- amongst the bad, maybe a Marx or a Rousseau. Men skilled in rhetoric can be Churchills or Hitlers, those with charisma either George Washington or Jim Jones. Considerable skill in engineering may eliminate dependence on oil, or it may build nuclear weapons for Syrian terrorists. Whatever the skill, whatever the gift, its benefit to mankind depends not upon talent itself, but upon the character of those who wield it. Therefore, all sensible men must be in agreement that the talents of mankind are not in themselves good, but are wholly and universally dependent upon the judgment, fortitude, and charity of their possessors. Talent for the sake of civilization must be developed, but it is better to be in the company of the righteous layman and farmer than surrounded by impressively treacherous and barbarous men. ... Without valiant soldiers, honest judges, vigilant citizens, and ethical working men of all kinds, Edisons and Einsteins may occasionally succeed, but true liberty in divine Law permits genius to flourish." Columnist Jeremy Egerer:
Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC): "[T]he response of the police, the taking down of the shooter so quickly, convinces me yet again that this is the safest city in the United States. ... And tonight we wanna say to residents that we don't think there's anything to fear in this city."
DC finished 2012 with only 88 murders, the last time it was that low was 1961. And remember that the Heller and McDonald decisions of the Supreme Court forced them to relax some of their gun laws in 2008, surprisingly that is when the murder rate started dropping according to FBI crime statistics.
I found the following post in the Reuters news on Chicago gun crime to be very to the point and well written
Scapegoating and distraction from the real causes of gun murder by Mr. Obama.
The super strong gun laws Diane Feinstein proposed would not have affected the Navy Yard shooting one iota.
Biden recommended shotgun: check
Hillary Clinton recommended non disclosure of mental health issues from one employer to the next: check
ACLU recommended probative burden issues with his prior two crimes: check
“Gun free zone” enabling highest fatalities: check
Why doesn’t Reuters do some concordance with the real numbers to put this into perspective? We have 10,400 murders with gun Studies in NJ, California and Florida indicate that 85% to 90% of the victims themselves are criminals. That means that 1,010 to 1,510 people in our country of 340 million people are not criminals killed by criminals.
It is also why the NY Times and Bloomberg gun murder victims tabulation actually listed Tamerlan Tsarneav, the Boston bomber, as a “gun murder victim.”
ON the other side of the equation Mr. Obama’s own CDC ordered report of August 2013 says 500,000 to 3 million crimes are prevented each year by law abiding gun owners.
Why doesn’t Reuters note that overall US gun murder rates have dropped 40% in 15 years? And that multiple shootings have also dropped by over 30%?
Why doesn’t Mr. Obama note that the DOJ’s own Institute of justice” study group says over 80% of gun murders acre committed by released felons and that simply keeping them in jail for their full sentences will reduce gun murder by ay least 2/3rds IMMEDIATELY?
Just my thoughts for today.
